Joey and Snickers Story!
Hello
Even though we have rescued dogs for almost 15 years, our first dachshund was a miniature smooth short hair named Joey. We got him from Sandra and Lou Mulsands in Knoxville, Tn. We fell so in love with Joey and his outgoing, curious, loving personality, after about 6 months, we decided we wanted to rescue another dachshund in need. I called Sandra and Lou and they had just rescued a lot of dachshunds from a puppy mill in North Carolina. They had a mini chocolate long-hair that had been caged his entire life of 12 months. He was in such bad shape; very underweight, almost no teeth due to the fact the breeders had fed the dogs slop instead of hard food and he was so timid and fearful it just broke our hearts. We brought him home and within 3 months, he decided he, too, was one of our children. His name is Snickers and we've had him almost 3 years. Snickers has overcome his fear, has wonderful teeth and a beautiful coat now and the most loving companion we could ask for. A completely different dog than the one we rescued. I am attaching a photo of Joey and Snickers and as you can see, they are both adorable. We love the dachshund breed and I rescued another long hair tweeny from the Knoxville pound. His name is Charlie and was found near death next to a dumpster. Well, Charlie is now a beautiful dog and definitely knows we are his forever home. Next came Binx, rescued in the Nashville area. He was a puppy, terribly timid, underweight and had no experience with human love. Today, he is a real charmer and happy as he can be.
If you are considering adopting a dachshund and you are looking for a wonderful companion, I encourage you to contact your local DRWP representative. The Mulsands have been wonderful, supportive, educational and have become valued friends. I thank them so much for giving us such entertainment and joy with our Dachshunds. Our dachshunds are such great companions and we are hooked! They are our entertainment, best friends, 2nd. family, our loves. With 4 in the house now, I think our family is complete. Thank you again to Sandra and Lou! You are very special people that have blessed us with so much love and companionship with our dachshunds and it would not have been possible without you both and your support.
Hugs! Jan Wilson
