The Dachsie Dude Ranch - A New Beginning
It's been too long since I wrote anything about my dream of a dachshund sanctuary, primarily because there has been nothing new to write. Well, now there is hope once again.
To recap what has happened so far, I took out a second mortgage on my personal home and purchased a lot where I had hoped to build someplace special for myself and the dogs. It's important to me, as there are animals here that will never make it out of rescue. Seniors mostly, but I've also got a little boy here who introduces himself by biting you. In our litiguous society, he represents a threat to the survival of the organization, but once he's "introduced" himself to you, he's a sweet, sweet dog. It's for him (and animals like him) that I continue to focus on a proper place for them to live out their lives.
Unfortunately, the plans I had for the lot never panned out. In retrospect, I was probably going about it in the wrong way. Hindsight is always 20/20. I had bought raw land, with the intention of building from scratch. I can see now that I should have bought a small home on a large property and moved myself and the dogs there while trying to build on the extra space. This is going to be my next attempt. If it fails, well, I'll regroup and try something else. At least I'll still have a place for the dogs and I to live while I consider options.
This is, just so you know, all happening out of my own pocket. The animals funding has not been (and will not be) touched for any of this. Because I will ultimately also benefit (by still having a place to live) if I'm successful, I feel that it's only right that I bear the expenses.
