Mr.Murphy's past is unknown; he came to us with five other Doxies that were at a shelter. All that is known is that a woman turned them into the shelter as she was unable to take care of them. Murphy came into rescue looking neglected. He was extremely underweight and a very quite dog. So we are sure he has some baggage from his prior life but he has decided to keep it to himself. We do know that Murphy is a reclusive little guy, most comfortable being on the side lines watching what is going on in the house and out in the yard.
He has become a much more happy and relaxed boy since one of our MWDR foster parents suggested we give him a medication called Clomipramine (25mg). It is used to treat obsessive compulsive disorders and separation anxioty in pets. Mr Murphy is beginning to enjoy the evening hours much more. He used to be terrified of them and would hide in his kennel. We now find him hanging around with the gang (both people and dogs) not doing a whole lot but accepting short sessions of lap time and cuddling. We just make sure that he can run off to bed when ever he wants to when he says I need to go now. Just before his mom goes to bed she covers his kennel with a blanket.
Mornings are exciting! If the household has come to life Murphy annouces his desire to get out of bed with several of his distinctive hoars Mr. Murphy barks. Mom takes his blanket off, gently picks him up and takes him out to go potty. His, day begins with breakfast . He loves his food! When meals are being prepared he is beside his kennel helping get things ready by play killing the toys he has claimed as his.
His kennel is his home and his refuge. He defends it by kicking out any doggie house mate that thinks they have the right to trespass. We have promised him that his kennel will always be his and when he finds his forever home he can take it with him.
When the sun burns off the dew on the grass it is time for him to go out sniffing, rolling and checking out interesting places in the back yard. Murphy loves to take walks with his foster family and going for a ride means great adventures.
His foster mom rewards his good behaviors and ignors his not so good behaviors since any form of punishment terrifies Murphy probably because of his previous life's experiences. He tends to trust women more than men and sweet higher pitched voices are trusted much more than low toned loud voices.
Murphy needs someone to spend time healing his tender soul. Someone to love him unconditionally for whom he is. He is willing to change his odd sort of ways if his family will just be patent and gentle with him. Slow, gentle approaches and being very patient with this guy in all that you want him to do will turn him into a very loyal friend. He needs to be no children and no other dogs would be a plus.
