Our Sanctuary Sweethearts

There are, in every rescue, no matter the breed, always going to be a certain number of animals for whom no "forever home" will ever be found.

These are the old dogs that are dumped in shelters or on the highway. In the woods, if the area is rural enough.

They are also the dogs who have medical problems that the owners either cannot, or will not, deal with. Some are serious. Others are minor. Either way, the problems have usually been correctable but the owner didn't consider it worth the expense.

And, they're the dogs that have behavioral problems that mean they cannot be safely placed in a new home.

On the pages that will follow, you'll read the stories of some of the "Sanctuary Sweethearts" who were lucky enough to find their way to rescue. Many have passed on and now await their rescuer at the Rainbow Bridge. Others remain with their "forever foster", who provide them with the love and care that makes their remaining time a comfortable and happy experience.

All are very much loved.

Max arrived in rescue in September of 2004. His owner had accepted a job as a flight attendant that would take her away from home for 3 to 4 day stretches at a time, multiple times each month.

Prince was never intended for the rescue program. When he arrived, it was as a courtesy to the municipal animal shelter.

Marvelous Motley

Motley was a very special dog. He was the very first rescue I ever accepted. I had such high hopes for him when I took him in. I didn't yet know the cold, cruel realities of rescue.
